SSAB is a leading producer of Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) and Quenched & Tempered Steels (Q&T), strip, plate and tube products. SSAB will use the industrial infrastructure at Oxelösund Steelworks to demonstrate the integration of scrap data to the melting process in full-scale. With the ambition to transform the Nordic production system from blast furnaces to EAF by 2030 starting with Oxelösund Steelworks already in 2025, the PURESCRAP initiative will be a key factor in handling the potential of increased amount of scrap required.
Role in the project
The main contribution from SSAB is in the large scale melt trials where batches of up to 20 ton scrap will be melted in the BOF to verify the chemical composition of the scrap batches.
